About Her: Granny Helen was born on July 28, 1930 in Appleton, Wisconsin. The oldest of three children, she is a daughter to her mother, Helen, and father, Lafayette, who owned a car lot. A talented woman, Granny Helen is artistic and has a beautiful voice. As a young girl she was in choir, played the piano, was a dancer and a diver. As a mother and grandmother, Granny Helen is an accomplished quilter, an avid bridge player, and an excellent horticulturist. She enjoys making candy and being a part of her Newcomers Club. When working around the kitchen strong water pressure in the faucet is very important.
Why She's Terrific: Granny Helen extols many virtues, the first of them being honesty. She'll give it to you straight when no one else will (ask her grandkids, particularly the one who had torn jeans and dreadlocks for hair). Another virtue Granny Helen exemplifies is patriotism. As a quilting enthusiast, she makes quilts for wounded soldiers.
